You've Seen 'Mary Carey for Governor'; How About Mayor?

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Former gubernatorial candidate and adult movie star Mary Carey's 35th birthday is June 15, and she's in town to celebrate with weekend shows at Center City's Gold Club—and to announce that she might move to the City of Brotherly Love and run for mayor. Carey, who entered the adult industry in 2002 and became a contract star for Kick Ass Pictures roughly a year later, ran for governor of California during the campaign to recall then-Governor Gray Davis. Urged on by Kick Ass owner Mark Kulkis, who managed her campaign, Carey scored 10th out of a field of 135 candidates for the position, with Hustler publisher Larry Flynt scoring 7th position and Arnold "Terminator" Schwarzenegger taking the win. Mary ran on an 11-point plan which included such "novel" ideas as legalizing same-sex marriage, taxing breast implants, creating a "Porn for Pistols" program to reduce the number of handguns, being a goodwill ambassador to attract business to the state, and our favorite, wiring the California Governor's Mansion with live webcams to bring in added revenue. She also mentioned, apparently seriously, that she might want to run for President of the United States one day. "Ten years ago, when I ran for governor and made that joke, I had to put my age in [the] public record," Carey told Daily News reporter Jenny DeHuff. "But I'd like to start in a smaller position first. I'm thinking I'd like to move to Philly and become the mayor of Philadelphia and preside over Wing Bowl. "Now that I've experienced it, I tell people there are two things to experience before you die," she added. "One is the Wing Bowl. The other is the AVN Awards. But I still put Wing Bowl ahead of the AVN Awards." Carey did her last hardcore scene in 2009, but she's gone on to garner some mainstream celebrity exposure, notably as a "patient" on VH1's "reality" series Celebrity Rehab. We can't promise that Carey won't indulge in a little electioneering from the Gold Club's stage, on which she'll be appearing with acrobatic contortionist/camgirl Lacey Rain—and those who mention DeHuff's Daily News column will receive a free autographed 8x10 of Carey. The club is located at 1416 Chancellor Street, just off Broad. Mary's first dance will be tomorrow evening, and she'll be there through Saturday—and she's ready to face even the rangiest Philly crowd. "I like really loud, obnoxious men," she told DeHuff. "Those are my favorite kind of people." Yup, she'll make a great politician!
