AVN Awards Nominations Announced at Private Hollywood Party

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Nominations for the 2015 AVN Awards were announced at a star-studded party at Hollywood nightspot Lure on Thursday, November 20. The invitation-only crowd enjoyed an open bar and the first public announcement of the nominations for the AVN Awards, which will be given out January 24, 2015. The event was hosted by Female Performer of the Year nominee Maddy O’Reilly. Nominations for several categories were announced from the stage by AVN Awards Show hosts Alexis Texas and Tommy Pistol, as well as director Jacky St. James, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Male and Female Performer of the Year, Clever Title of the Year, and several sex scene categories. Trophy girls Carmen Caliente and Jillian Janson also took to the podium to announce the nominees for Best Affiliate Program and Best Porn Star Website. And the crowd got a peek at the talented woman who will be joining co-hosts Texas and Pistol onstage at the AVN Awards Show: comedian Danielle Stewart. O'Reilly kicked things off by announcing some of the nominees for the "O" Awards, which honor the best products and collections from the industry’s top pleasure product manufacturers. “O” Award winners will be given out at a separate ceremony on January 22, during the AVN Novelty Expo, which also takes place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. Many announcements were received with cheers, often led by the nominees themselves. "I'm the Susan Lucci of porno," Male Performer of the Year nominee Erik Everhard observed as his nomination was announced. "Me and Leonardo DiCaprio. Keep getting nominated, never win. But that's okay. My work speaks for itself. It's going to be time to retire to an island soon," he added with a laugh. "Best New Starlet is fuckin' awesome, but I cried over the Best Anal Scene nomination," nominee Dakota Skye told AVN. "The anal means a lot to me because I never thought I would end up doing it and I wound up falling in love with it. That's what I was working for and I got it so I'm beyond excited." "I'm pretty excited. I was well recognized," Jessica Drake said. "To be recognized for actress for Aftermath was really cool. All the recognition for Aftermath I loved. And Holly…Would and Asa [Akira] being nominated for Actress makes me happy. She couldn't be here tonight, so I told her that every time I heard her name I would stand up and scream. And I did." "I'm super excited about Best Actress," nominee Alex Chance told AVN. "I had no idea that I was going to get nominated for This Ain't Girls XXX. I worked so hard on that movie and I'm so glad that AVN liked it enough to nominate it." "I'm so proud of everyone who was nominated. There is great talent out there," Best New Starlet nominee Scarlet Red said. "Best New Starlet is amazing. I'm so excited to put out a classy face on the industry. I want people to see porn as amazing, erotic art." "I started crying. It means more to me than anything," director Jacky St. James told AVN. "You put so much heart and soul into your work and you want to be recognized but you can't ever expect it. I literally can't believe it.  Fortunately I've had the chance to do a lot of things, from features to vignettes, and got to show what I can do. To be recognized by AVN for that was … I don't want to start crying but it was amazing. I just couldn't believe it." "It's funny, a month ago I would have told you that getting nominated for Best New Starlet would be crazy for me, but in the last two weeks or so I felt that maybe it was possible," Best New Starlet nominee Carter Cruise said. "Not totally expected, but…" "I know that I was nominated for Best Couples Sex Scene, and then I kind of wandered off," nominee Dana DeArmond said. "There are so many categories. I wish there was a 'Best Jerk' category. I'd love to get that. I'm kind of a foil, I'm typecast as a bitch character." "Two years ago I watched the AVN Awards and I watched Asa Akira shake and cry," Female Performer of the Year nominee Adriana Chechik said. "All love to her, but I was watching and wondering why was this woman crying about sex? Then I got this nomination that I never thought I would get and I started crying. You don't realize the amount of heart and soul you put into the videos until you're actually doing it. I can honestly say that everyone I've done a scene with so far—I've fallen in love with. I cry at the fact that everyone is helping make me who I am." The party also received good reviews. "It was exciting to be nominated," director Brad Armstrong said. "It's good to see the Nominating Committee recognized for their hard work. It was good to see the people I don’t see outside my Wicked bubble. It was a good idea." "It's wonderful to be back. It's overwhelming," veteran and returning performer Karen Summer said. "There were more people in this room than there were in the entire business when I was here in the ’80s. It's overwhelming. It's a great opportunity to meet people and network. I've worked with Devil's Film and Will Ryder, so I recognized some names, but there's so many more now. As the party ended, the complete list of nominations was distributed to the crowd. The full rundown can be accessed here. The AVN Awards winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on January 24, 2015, at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, right after the conclusion of the annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, which runs January 21-24, also at Hard Rock.
