Kindle Fire Devices Now Allow Private Porn... Er, Web Browsing

MOBILITY, Ala.—To Gizmodo, private browsing equates to visiting porn sites, and who are we to quarrel? Now the Kindle Fire tablet, which has long since established itself as far more than just an e-reader, joins its competitors in giving users what they want via an upgrade to its built-in Silk browser, an upgrade that will also include Fire phones. In a statement to the Fire blog posted today, the company explains, "In response to customer feedback, we are excited to announce support for Private Browsing. With Private Browsing, you can surf the web without saving a record of your visits. For example, if you use Private Browsing while researching travel destinations for a surprise trip or shopping for presents, these sites will not show up in your browsing history when someone else uses your device. Private Browsing is now available on our 2012, 2013, and 2014 Amazon Fire tablets as well as the Amazon Fire phone." The way Gizmodo interprets the news, "Chrome and Safari have had their private browsing modes for ages, but until now the Silk browser was without one of its own. The only solution for being secretive was to delete all your data after the fact, or go through the trouble of installing a separate porn browser. With the new version of Silk, all you have to do is tap the menu button and flip a 'private browsing' toggle switch." Despite the assumption that people browsing privately by definition are looking at content they would not want to download, the Silk version gives users the option to keep or not. The blog explains, "When you exit Private Browsing, Silk gives you the option to either keep or delete any files you downloaded while browsing.
