Tommy Gunn Breaks Out Into Mainstream With 'Wolves'

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Tommy Gunn has long been one of the most popular actor/directors in adult entertainment, but now the non-porn-watching world will get a chance to see him strut his stuff in the mainstream film Wolves, opening in theaters nationwide on November 14. The official synopsis of the film's plot is as follows: "Cayden Richards (Lucas Till), 18, has it all: Captain of the high school football team; straight-A student; gorgeous girlfriend. But when he wakes one dark night to find his parents brutally murdered, he is horrified to realize that he is turning into an animal: a wild, savage wolf. Panicked, Cayden runs, determined to find out what is happening to him. His quest leads him to the strange, isolated town of Lupine Ridge, where two clans of wolves are on the brink of war. The opposing clans are led by Connor (Jason Momoa), the powerful, pure-blood alpha of a savage pack and John Tollerman (Stephen McHattie), an old farmer, committed to protecting the human citizens of Lupine Ridge. But when Cayden falls for Angelina (Merritt Patterson), the beautiful, young mate promised to Connor, a battle to the death is inevitable. And as the past begins to reveal itself, Cayden’s place in the world becomes clearer—as does his power to put an end to the savage violence building up around and within him…" Sci-fi/fantasy/horror fans will already be familiar with the main cast. Till is best known as Alex Summers aka Havoc in a couple of the X-Men movies, while Momoa already has a major fan base from his roles in Game of Thrones, The Red Road, Stargate: Atlantis... and possibly as far back as Baywatch. Patterson's main claim to fame is the TV series Ravenswood, while veteran actor McHattie spent a couple of years as the evil reverend on the Syfy series Haven. All in all, it's a heady crowd, including debuting director David Hayter, who previously had been known as a voice actor for video games like Metal Gear Solid and the animated TV series Spider-Man, but who also penned the scripts for the first two X-Men movies and Watchmen. "The way this opportunity came across my desk, my partner from years back, Paul Rapovski, was the stunt coordinator for the film and he's also a dear friend of mine, so when the script came into his hands and he read it over, he discovered there was a scene in the movie that called for two biker-type guys," Gunn recalled. "It wasn't the biggest role but it was a pivotal role because in the movie, Lucas Till basically discovers he's changing into a wolf, so throughout the movie, he's going through some of these changes, and the particular scene that I was cast in was one of the pivotal moments where Lucas Till changes from a human into a wolf. It's the first time we see the lead change into a wolf, and I'm in that scene with him." "What happens is, myself and another gentleman have like a truck stop, and that's where the scene unfolds," he continued. "We're having our way with a truck stop prostitute, smacking her around and just kind of beating her up, giving her a hard time. Then Lucas Till interrupts us and tries to prevent us from smacking her around anymore, and then he and I have some words, and it pretty much escalates from there, and as he's changing into a wolf, he attacks me and attacks my partner and kills us both—but it's the first time the audience sees him really change." The film was shot in late 2012 with an $18 million budget—and considering how many people get turned into werewolves over the course of the movie, they probably had to pinch a few pennies, but it looks like horror fans will get plenty of bang for their bucks. (Click here for earlier story on AVN.com.) "I did my own stunts," Gunn noted. "Basically what happened was, come time to cast these particular roles, these were pretty much for actors who could do some stunts, or I guess stuntmen who could do some acting. So I got cast to do that with some light stunts, theatrical fighting and slapping and all that cinematic stuff. So it was pretty fun. I guess we taped for about 12 hours. We started at 6 p.m. and finished at 6 a.m. in the morning. It was in Canada, so it was freezing rain, really raining, but it was a great experience." Gunn's looking forward to seeing himself 15 feet high on the silver screen—and he's looking forward to even more mainstream work, one of which will be Duel of Legends, which is already in post-production. "We have some other things that production company is developing," he said, "so I was left with what the producer and my friend Paul said, that 'anything that comes down the pipeline that we feel that you're fit for, we'll get you in it.'"
