Fresh Face: Scarlet Red

This interview originally ran in the September issue of AVN magazine. The BasicsHometown: "A little town outside Aspen, Colorado."How old are you? 22Measurements: 5-foot-9, 130 lbs., 34C, "I'm a size 4 in a dress, pants are size 5. My waist is, like, 22, my hips are, like, 30."Hair: "Blondish. I call it dead-possum color, but it's going back to blonde. With highlights."Eyes: "Bluish-green." New talent Scarlet Red may be vague about her measurements but she has articulate, well-formed opinions about a lot of other things. "I feel that interracial scenes are more open now and it's tough for some people to wrap their head around them. I believe a lot of fans like interracial and when I look at my Twitter I hear 'A lot of interracial scenes.' I like both. I like to even it out and express that we are a multicultural nation." How did you start with this?I did mainstream clothes and jewelry modeling before, local commercials. A friend was talking about me joining her, but she wouldn't tell me it was porn. She finally told me and I said "Hey, I'll give it a try. I had a 'fuck it' attitude." I've loved it ever since. I did a boy-girl scene and a girl-girl scene with my friend. What did you do before this?I went to college in Colorado. Trying to make do. How many scenes have you done now?Over 50 but less than 100. What's the best scene you've done so far? That's a tough one. I enjoy so much what I do. ... I've enjoyed several. I think my best scene was a Digital Desire shoot. Who do you want to work with that you haven't worked with yet?Hmmm. India Summer. Lately. It changes. I like to meet new people. Do you like working in the adult industry?I love it. I love how I can sexually challenge myself. I like how I can be expressive and open with it. I think sex is very beautiful and very artistic, so it's a beautiful piece of art. And it's the most natural. What's the biggest misconception outsiders have of the adult industry? Some people misread the industry, thinking there's drug use, taking advantage of girls, prostitution, STDs, no tests or anything. I want people to perceive the adult industry as a positive entertainment that everybody uses, every day. It is safe. There are not always drug users. That stereotypical concept they have is wrong. I'd like to change that. What are your biggest turn-ons?I like being surprised. I like spontaneous moves. I like my partner to surprise me, make me try something different. In a scene I like to try something different because it may work, but I like to keep control because I think that's what the audience wants. Describe your dream sexual scenario.I've said this once before but it hasn't happened so I'm going to say it again. I've wanted to have sex on a canvas with a partner. I want to have a lot of paint on each other and get very sexy and tease each other with the paint, and then you have sex on the canvas and it turns out to be a work of art afterwards. What three personal items would you take if you were stranded on a desert island? The love of my life. Water. Food. Generic things I can't live without. What's the most valuable life lesson you've learned?Basically, stick to your instincts. Go with your gut. If something is telling me not to do that, I won't do it. If someone next to me is telling me to do that, I gotta listen to myself. Not the person next to me. How would you spend your last day on earth?I'd make it the best day on earth. I would do everything on my bucket list. I would do the most courageous, most risk-taking thing I had never done. On my birthday I'm going to go skydiving. Crazy stuff like that. Maybe go scuba diving, in a dark trench. Try something new and exciting. I like to surprise myself, so whatever I'm feeling that day, I'll do. How would your best friends describe you?Sweet, caring, generous, compassionate. I feel comfortable in my own skin. How do you spend your free time?I like to do artwork. Right now I'm doing a charcoal on canvas of a beautiful woman. She has a pearl pendant and her hair up, kind of in silhouette. She looks really pretty. I'm excited about it. I like watching movies. Comedies. I like thrillers here and there. If you weren't doing this, what would you like to be doing?I don't know. I was studying fashion journalism. I would talk about future trends, I would talk about trends repeating themselves. I would talk about avant-garde and Lady Gaga being a little extreme but very creative. Very unconventional, maybe she should make things more conventional for certain events. When she wore that meat outfit, I would say no on that. Do you have a long-range plan? No. I live in the moment. I enjoy life as it comes, and I'm enjoying it right now. If something happens that makes my mind think differently and I want to do something else... I don't know if that will come or not. I'm crossing over to mainstream work now. Maybe I'll be directing. Or writing scripts. Quick Hits Food you would be able to eat every day: I've always had a thing for ice cream. Mint chocolate chip. Best concert you've been to: I know one I do want to go to, and I think it will change my life. I would love to see the Lumineers and Mumford & Sons perform together at Red Rocks in Colorado. It's not planned, I just want to see it happen. I think it would change my life. Pet peeves: I don't like discrimination. Any kind. I like happy, carefree and I don't like it when people are having a really tough day and they drag it around to other people. I feel that everybody has control of their lives, and there's no excuse for that. One thing you would like to change about yourself: I've learned to accept who I am. But I would like to spend more time with my dog. Have more quality time with my family and be more family-oriented. What gets you in the mood: Sexual mood? I like sensual, soft, passionate things. Kissing behind my neck, carrying me and lifting me up on the counter, getting hot and steamy no matter where we are. Is there anything else we should know about you? I'm very artistic, I love the industry, and I hope I can help change people's perception of the industry in a positive, professional way. A lot of people make it out a joke. I want it to look more professional. This is a job. This is entertainment, like mainstream. I've been on good sets and I've been on bad sets. I'd rather everyone be professional.
