Girlfriends Films Donates to Prevent Blindness & AIDS Walk LA

VALENCIA, Calif.—Girlfriends Films is extending its philanthropic endeavors for October to include two charities. A donation of $1,000 will be presented to Prevent Blindness on behalf of company editor Brett. In addition, AIDS Walk LA will receive $500 in support of adult performer Dana DeArmond, who is participating in the event with Team APAC. Founded in 1908, Prevent Blindness is the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. Focused on promoting a continuum of vision care, Prevent Blindness touches the lives of millions of people each year.  “I recently found out one of my friends was diagnosed with an eye condition causing her to slowly lose her vision,” said Brett. “Furthering her pain is the fact her children have diagnosed with the same condition.” “My selection of Prevent Blindness was due to the organization’s health education and screening policies, as well as its support of state of the art research," Brett explained. "Thank you to Girlfriends Films for supporting a charity committed to helping families, like my friend’s.” AIDS Walk Los Angeles has drawn more than a half-million participants, who have collectively raised more than $72 million in its 27 years. The event, which has served as a model of grassroots fundraising and community activism for organizations across the United States, is sponsored by AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). It is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease, reducing the incidence of HIV infection, and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy. DeArmond is participating in AIDS Walk LA with other members of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC). “I was thrilled when the APAC board voted to make me the AIDS Walk LA Team leader," DeArmond said. "Our team has done an amazing job fund-raising and recently surpassed $20,000 with the help of generous donations like the $500 from Girlfriends Films.” “Girlfriends Films has always been on the forefront of charitable work for and with their employees and performers,” continued DeArmond. “In August I was challenged by Girlfriends Films director B.Skow to do the ALS ice bucket challenge, which I completed along with a donation. It's a fun back and forth we have, but most importantly, we are getting a lot of worthwhile fundraising done.” Each month, Girlfriends Films turns to one of its employees or performers to select a charity to support. In 2013, the Girlfriends Films Charity Program donated over $20,000 to a wide array of philanthropic organizations, from medical institutes to animal sanctuaries. Charities supported in 2014 include Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Movember Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, National Alliance to End Homelessness, and more. Any Girlfriends Films performers interested in participating may apply by emailing the following information: name, AIP charity of choice, reason(s) for selecting the charity. Chosen performers will be asked to submit a personal photo depicting the performer engaged with the charity, the charity’s mission, or a similar charitable act. The photo will be used for promotional purposes.
