Volunteers Needed To Prep Shannon Collins Memorial Garden For Fall

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—Volunteers are needed on Saturday, Aug. 2, to prep the Shannon Collins Memorial Garden for the fall season. Crews will clean up, weed, and water the garden, plant additonal succulents, and prepare the garden for the fall season. The ongoing California drought continues to make garden watering difficult through these warm weeks, so volunteers are asked to bring water with them to use in the garden. Volunteers will also plant additional succulents to brighten up Shannon's Garden as the weather gradually begins to cool into late summer. Items needed include succulents, bags of soil and small gardening tools. Volunteers of all ages are needed. The garden was created last year by LELO officials in remembrance of Shannon Collins. Collins, who co-owned the adult boutique Camouflage in Santa Cruz with her husband Ken Vinson, was murdered in May 2013. “She was one of the first retailers to carry LELO products,” explained Patty Callahan, communications and marketing manager. “She loved the products, and we loved her. We knew we had to do something to honor her memory.” The planting and care takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center, located at 303 Walnut Avenue in Santa Cruz, CA.
