'Dave Pounder' Running for Palm Beach County School Board

LOS ANGELES—Former adult performer Dave Pounder has decided to run for a seat on the Palm Beach County District 3 school board, according to local news media. Pounder, whose real name is David Benoit Mech, has 97 performer credits to his name, according to iafd.com, with his active years listed as between 2003-2008. He also has 14 credits as a director. According to cbs12.com, "On Monday, former porn star David Benoit Mech was qualified to run against incumbent Karen Brill for the Palm Beach County School Board District 3 seat. Mech has been running the Happy/Fun Math Tutor company since 2010, but he is better known as actor Dave Pounder from his former career in adult films." Not coincidentally, Mech sued the Palm Beach County School Ditstrict in 2013 after three large banners promoting his tutoring business that he had placed at three area high schools were ordered taken down by the District because of his porn past. According to cbs12, "Mecha's case is scheduled to go to trial this November, the same month as the election." Mech has launched a website in support of his campaign for the seat. On it, he states, "I am running for the Palm Beach County School Board (District 3) to bring about fundamental change in areas where the current board is deficient. Once again, these areas include technology, innovation, equality, sex education, and secular values." The article adds, "Mech has two doctorate degrees and says that there is nothing illegal about his former participation in the adult film industry." Mech/Pounder, an active post-performing critic of the adult entertainment industry, also made a documentary called Risky Business: A Look Inside America's Adult Film Industry, which screened at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival last year. He also testified in favor of requiring adult performers to wear condoms at a hearing before the CalOSHA Standards Board in August, 2010.
