'Men Are From Mars' Author Blames Free Online Porn, Feminists

LOS ANGELES—John Gray, the author of the 1992 hit non-fiction book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, made some comments recently that could have the unique effect of bringing pro-porn and anti-porn feminists together in an orgy of revulsion directed toward him and his ideas. First, in an interview with AFP, the 62-year-old writer and lecturer weighed in on feminism in general, commenting, "The reason why there's so much divorce is that feminism promotes independence in women. I'm very happy for women to find greater independence, but when you go too far in that direction, then who's at home?" Very PC, to be sure, but he wasn't done. Averring that American feminists hold inordinate sway over our brains, he explained, "The most resistance I get to my message is in America. Wherever feminism has a strong hold, there's resistance to the idea that men and women are different." That idea, of course, is at the core of his most famous work, which has been translated into 50 languages and has sold over 50 million copies. As the New Zealand Herald put it, according to Gray, "Men and women come from different planets, and the two sexes should stop trying to behave similarly, and embrace their own natural personalities." No room in his world for any gender identification but the two obvious ones, obviously. Sorry, Jiz Lee. He's still not done. On the matter of the Big Picture, Gray is unabashedly convinced that free online porn is akin to smack. "With free internet porn, there's a massive addiction happening," he insists, adding that there are "just millions and millions of people... experiencing their sexual satisfactions through total fantasy. The effect that porn has on the brain is like taking heroin." We do wonder, however, if paying for porn mitigates the threat of addiction, and we're hoping it does. The rise of infidelity sites like Ashley Madison and Arrangement Finders (which is really a sugar daddy site) also come in for the Gray Matter treatment. According to the good doctor, "When you have impersonal sex.... 'It's OK, here are these cheating wives, men, they want to have sex with you'... So you go have sex with someone that you don't know and someone you don't love ... impersonal sex does promote addiction to sex." In that sense, he adds, it's "along the same line of pornography." We're all just sheeple to Gray, who appreciates the fact that people in Australia, South America and especially France hear his message of fidelity to gender rules, but he still finds it irksome that the feminists in America are having so much success keeping his ideas from the masses despite all the years that his books have been available.
