Sen. Cannella Plans to Plug California 'Revenge Porn' Hole

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—A California legislator says he plans to introduce a bill that shores up a loophole in the California "revenge porn" law that limits the extent to which it can be enforced. According to the Los Angeles Times, Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) says he is going to plug a hole in the current law in order to "extend the prohibition to 'selfies,' in which men or women photograph themselves while undressed and then send them to their significant other." Cannella added, "I recognized that more could be done to protect a larger number of victims so I will present new legislation this upcoming session so the law will apply to anyone who distributes revenge porn regardless of who took the photo." Of course, the loophole in the law did not prevent the state from arresting Kevin Bollaert last week and charging him with 31 felony counts of conspiracy, identity theft and extortion related to the operation of his website, ugotposted.com, which has since been taken offline.
