Isadore Hall’s Office Anticipates a Vote on AB 640 Today

LOS ANGELES—A representative from the Sacramento office of Assemblymember Isadore Hall, III (D-Los Angeles) has told AVN that despite the fact that AB640, Hall’s “gut and amend” bill mandating the use of condoms by adult performers in the state, is not currently on the roster of bills scheduled to be voted on today by the Senate, they anticipate that it will be voted on by both houses by the end of session tonight, the second to last day of the legislative session. Currently, said the spokesperson, the bill is still in the Policy Committee, where efforts are underway to gain approval for the bill so that it can be moved to the Senate floor for a vote; from there, assuming the Senate passes it, it will go to the full Assembly for a floor vote by that body. He added that it is common for bills to move quickly through this process in the final days of a legislative session, and added that a bill will sometimes move from committee through both houses in a matter of hours. Should events transpire the way Hall's office anticipates, and AB 640 is successfully moved out of committee and approved by both chambers, it will then go to the governor’s desk for a signature. If that is forthcoming, the bill will become law and go into effect immediately.
