THR Profiles Industry Players in Series on Porn Biz

HOLLYWOOD—Entertainment trade The Hollywood Reporter added another feather to James Deen's crowded hat with a short profile of the porn wunderkind published on its website today, but he wasn't the only adult entertainment subject tackled by THR in a multi-part series posted to its site that also includes a major article on leading talent agents, another on porn-to-mainstream phenoms and yet another on the industry's fight against Measure B. In the Deen piece, the "boy next door" reiterates his oft-uttered mantra about having no desire to leave adult for a mainstream career. The story also mentions that his big crossover vehicle, the Bret Easton Ellis penned/Paul Schrader helmed The Canyons, is due out "sometime next year," but has yet to acquire distribution. A just-released trailer intimated that the flick would be released online. This latest bit of big-time exposure for Deen comes right on top of his attendance as one of the guests of honor Tuesday night at GQ magazine's Men of the Year party. The meatiest article in the series is about the industry agents, and takes a rare in-depth look at an aspect of the business rarely covered by the mainstream. Focusing mostly on leading firms Spiegler Girls and L.A. Direct Models, with side glances at Shy Love's Adult Talent Managers and OC Modeling, and a brief mention of 101 Modeling, it addresses the tough times being experienced by talent and also the increasing opportunitites that are opening up outside the historically restrictive boudaries of porn. The piece includes commentary from talent as well, including Asa Akira and Danny Mountain. Another article takes a rather appreviated look at the issues surrounding Measure B, the mandatory condom iniative passed by LA County voters this month. It includes a promise by Vivid honcho Steve Hirsch that "the industry is ready to fight." The last article in today's Hollywood Reporter series on the adult entertainment industry is a rework of a November piece on "Porn's Biggest Croccover Stars," and includes short spotlights on mainstraem success stories Ron Jeremy, Jenna Jameson, Sasha Grey, Traci Lords and Sunny Leone. As mentioned, James Deen got his very own article today, an indication of the extent to which he has embedded himself in the mainstream firmament. Deen photo courtesy of HollywoodReporter.com.
