Sssh.com Charity for November: MIRA Foundation

BOSTON—Sssh.com, the erotica and sexuality website designed and maintained for women by women, continues its philanthropic donation program and is pleased to announce that MIRA Foundation was the organization as voted by the Sssh.com subscriber community for the month of November. MIRA works to help disabled individuals lead their lives independently as functioning members of society. MIRA does this by providing dogs bred and trained to respond to their adaptation and rehabilitation needs. MIRA Foundation’s services are made available, free of charge, to individuals with one or many visual or motor disabilities, and to children presenting Pervasive Development Disorders such as autism. At MIRA, they subscribe to a principle of physical equality. Namely, they believe that anything that is accessible to the public at large should be accessible to handicapped individuals. MIRA’s work consists in helping individuals with one or many disabilities to adapt to life with these disabilities. MIRA concentrates their efforts on improving the functional abilities of individuals, in particular in regard to mobility and orientation, so that they can get around freely in their living environment. Sssh.com takes time and consideration to ensure that each organization is chosen based on a commitment to excellence, accomplishment of stated goals and ratio of funds distributed (direct application to the cause vs. administrative expense). The list of potential beneficiaries includes social, medical and environmental charities that get little attention and deserve so much more. Some are large associations known for touching lives in positive ways. Others are small but cutting-edge research foundations determined to cure debilitating diseases. Still others are cultural and community outreach programs devoted to enriching lives. Sssh began the monthly revenue project earlier this year. Previous winners include Doctors Without Borders, Broadway Cares and Jackson Laboratory.   Sssh.com is the only adult website that involves its members in the process of choosing the charity for its monthly donation. Sssh.com’s members will select each month’s beneficiary—giving women a voice in ensuring dollars go where they will do the most good.
