Romance can be hairy as production begins 16-day shoot.
TLA Releasing announces that principal photography for the new romantic comedy, BearCity, begins today, August 10, 2009 for sixteen days in Manhattan and in the greater New York area. Co-written by Douglas Langway (Raising Heroes) and Lawrence Ferber (short films: Cruise Control and Birthday Time), the film will also be directed by Langway. We are thrilled that BearCity is our inaugural film for the 2009/2010 production slate, says Derek Curl, TLA Releasing Production Executive. With the combined efforts of our talented director, a recognizable cast and a strong production team, this New York-flavored, romantic comedy is going to be great entertainment. Set in New Yorks gay bear scene, a subculture dedicated to mostly hirsute men, and taking a cue from the popular HBO franchise Sex and the City, BearCity follows a tight-knit pack of friends experiencing comical mishaps, emotionally sweet yet lusty romantic encounters and a cast of colorful, diverse characters as they gear up for a big party weekend. The ensemble cast includes Gerald McCullouch (Bobby Dawson on CBS CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), newcomer Joe Conti, Brian Keane (NBCs Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Stephen Guarino (Logo Televisions Big Gay Sketch Show), Alex Di Dio, Gregory Gunter, James Martinez (CBSNumb3rs) and Sebastian Le Cause (Chicago). Crew credits include Derek Curl and Lewis Tice as Executive Producers, Heidi H. Hamelin as Producer, Michael Hauer as Director of Photography, Racey North as Production Designer, Kathryn Moser as Costume Director and Zoe E. Rotter as Casting Director. TLA Releasing will be distributing the film in 2010.
