ADULT TAX DROPPED BEFORE IT GETS A HEARING

Free Speech Coalition (FSC) announced today that AB 1082, a bill to levy a 12 percent tax for all adult-related products sold in the state of California, was dropped. The bill was dropped last night, though it was scheduled to go to a hearing today.

“When I arrived in my office this morning, I received a call from our California Lobbyist Ignacio Hernandez, letting us know that the bill to impose an additional tax on adult products and services had been dropped,” said FSC Executive Director Diane Duke. “We lobbied extensively on this bill both at our Lobby Days in March and through Ignacio’s work behind the scenes. Clearly the hard work paid off.”

FSC members and supporters went to Sacramento in March, to meet with legislators in the State Capitol and argue against AB 1082. Had the bill been heard as scheduled today, the FSC was ready with experts to testify about the unconstitutionality of a tax on free expression.

Established in 1991, the Free Speech Coalition’s mission is to lead, protect and support the growth and well-being of the adult entertainment community.
