Best-selling FirstOUT Series Now Includes Compilation of Award-Winning Films From Around the Globe
Alluvial collected some of the best shorts from countries around the world for its newest DVD release FirstOUT International, which releases today. The DVD includes films from Korea, Spain, France, Australia and the United States. Each of the five shorts garnered at least two awards giving the collection a total of 12. FirstOUT International is proving to be yet another success with major retailers already placing orders. Josh Kim's The Postcard starts out FirstOUT International. This humorous Korean film tells the tale of a post office clerk who mistakenly thinks that a customer is trying to get her attention by writing open love letters on postcards he sends out; however, they are meant for another postal worker. The film won the award for Best Foreign Language Film at the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. It also won the short film Honorable Mention Award at the Asian Pacific Film Festival in Los Angeles. Next, John Winter's Mirror Mirror shows the difficulty an aging drag queen has in letting go of his alter ego. It stars Roy Billing who is presently a lead in the new Australian TV series Underbelly - the Tale of Two Cities, which has set a new record for Australian television - the highest rating non-sporting program in the history of Australian television ratings. First OUT International Sístole-Diástole (Systolic/Diastolic), a film by Pelayo Muñiz of Spain, tells the story of Angel and Tono, a couple who have to face a terrible situation - Angel's death. The film won four awards including Best Short Film at the Barcelona International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Best Male Performance at the Dunas Short Film Festival (Fuerteventura, Spain), the Gold Remi Award at Woldfest Film Festival (Houston, USA) and the First Price for New Filmmakers at the Gijón International Film Festival (Gijón, Spain). Next, Nick Oceano presents his film El Primo (The Cousin) about a sheltered, sensitive teenager in Laredo, Texas whose world is turned upside down when a simple night of partying with his rougher, older cousin becomes a night of self-revelation. El Primo has garnered the award for Best American-Latino Short from the Downtown Film Festival in Los Angeles and was honored as one of the Best of Fest in at the Outfest Film Festival in Los Angeles. FirstOUT International finishes with Le Baiser (Romeo's Kiss), a film from France about a 20 year old who unexpectedly discovers his true sexual orientation while rehearsing a Romeo and Juliet kiss scene. Le Baiser garnered the Jury Prize at Festicam de Mougins (Mougins, France) and the Public Award at Festival Courts sur le System (Nîmes, France).
