The J.X. Williams Archive proudly announces several new initiatives in 2009 in its ongoing effort to promote and distribute the work of noted cult film director J.X. Williams.
1. J.X. Williams @ The Directors Lounge / Berlin Amongst the fanfare of The Berlinale, The J.X. Williams Archive will be presenting a sneak preview screening of a new documentary on Mr. Williams, J.X. Williams L.A. J.X. Williams' L.A. 2009 | Video | 39 mins. Directed by Noel Lawrence & Chris Manz There are two main characters in this picture: J.X. Williams and the city of Los Angeles. However, if you subscribe to the claim of many that J.X. Williams is Los Angeles, perhaps this picture is about one character In mid-century L.A., no other figure came to define the ambition and the excesses of Hollywood more than J.X. Car bombs, police raids, exploitation films, and an escaped gorilla all played a role. Accompanied by cultural critic and documentarian Chris Manz, Williams "expert" Noel Lawrence takes the viewer on a tour of Los Angeles and discusses the various places, people, and events that made up the colorful life of Mr. Williams. The screening will happen on Sunday February 8 at 8pm at The Directors Lounge which is located at Berlin Mitte, Friedrich Str. 112A. Williams Book Project Years in the making, The Archive is pleased to note that 2009 may likely be the year it publishes its first volume of documents from its holdings on J.X. Williams. The book (yet to be titled) will include previously unreleased material of Mr. Williams connections to Sammy Davis Jr., Roy Cohn, Sam Giancana, and others as well as commentary and analysis from noted critics and luminaries of cinema. NOTE: Due to the sensitive nature of this project, The Archive is not currently fielding any press inquiries about the book at this time. However, interested parties are free to contact us and we will get in touch at a later time. 3. Upcoming Screenings Frequent inquiries are sent to The Archive on the possibility (or lack thereof) of seeing the films of J.X. Williams. Due to legal complications, most of his work is not available on home video or in other distribution channels. To remedy this issue, The Archive is continuing its touring exhibition of Williams filmography with dates in Los Angeles, Denver, and in New England later this year. In order to make the work of J.X. Williams as publicly available as possible, we encourage all cinematheques and museums to get in touch with The Archive about screening opportunities. Please contact Noel Lawrence (info@jxarchive.org) to discuss possible bookings. And feel free to contact your local cinema and let them know that the public needs to see these films.
